A Favor for a Bearded Man

Rebecca did a wonderful favor for me this morning. She helped me to buy two packets of chicken rice (1 white & 1 roasted) on my behalf, for my parents.

Yes, I’m the bearded man. I had walked out to the main road to fetch her with a big umbrella coz it was raining heavily.

Okay, a moment of honesty… I learnt this from my Dad this morning, that it was gentleman to fetch a lady with an umbrella, when it’s raining heavily.

Anyway, both Rebecca & I were totally caught unaware when she turned around, saw me… & had a big fright seeing me with a whole lot of moustache & thick side-burns growing on my face!

She had this really shocked facial expression & asked me how long haven’t shaved. I replied that it has been about 4 days, coz I haven’t left home since. She was stunned & I started to feel embarrassed. Thankfully, she alerted me coz I wouldn’t have thought that I looked so distasteful with all that overgrown facial hair.

The best & most comical part – she exclaimed that I looked like a ‘Yellow Ribbon Project’! I was utterly shocked when I realized that I was not only very unshaven... I was also wearing this old, baggy & faded yellow colored t-shirt. Rebecca can’t be wrong, coz my Mum was the first person to refer to me as ‘Yellow Ribbon Project’ sometime ago.

I felt so embarrassed, walking with Rebecca towards the chicken rice stall & kept trying to shield my face with the corners of my big umbrella. After passing Rebecca some money to buy the two packets of chicken rice, she walked off to buy the food & I was left standing in front of the 7-11 convenience store… trying to look away from several passer-bys.

My attempt failed miserably, coz I got some stares from a few ladies who were walking past the 7-11 & one of them was coming out from the store! It was so embarrassing, looking so rudely unshaven & standing near a road junction in my own neighborhood!

Foolishly, I tried to cover the lower half of my face, by pretending to rub my nose… but this ploy only worked for a few seconds. What am I doing? Sigh…

Rebecca came back towards me, with two packets of chicken rice & a wide grin on her face. Then we walked back to my home, sheltering ourselves with the big umbrella, as I tried to tilt the front part of the umbrella downwards a little, whenever people passed by in front of us. What an embarrassing morning!
