How to Experience Life at its Fullest Measure
This is the depth of truth - everyone wants to live their life to its fullest measure. It’s just a natural human longing inside us that compels us to want to live so.
Many realize it, but yet do not know how to go about attaining this experience, step by step, phase by phase in their life. Some passive ones will say that they will figure out along the way, others more proactive ones will say that their life is in their own hands & just surge towards whatever means & ways that would seem to promise satisfaction & fulfillment at every point or day of their life.
Very often, we think & desire much, but listen least. Single-mindedness is good, but it depends on which side one is looking upon.
Today’s bible study revealed this passage to me -
“He [Moses] said to them [Israelites], “Take to heart all the words I have solemnly declared to you this day, so that you may command your children to obey carefully all the words of this law. They are not just idle words for you – they are your life. By them you will live long in the land you are crossing the Jordon to possess.” – Deuteronomy 32:46-47.
It shouldn’t be too surprising that many of us tend to view commands, judgments, statutes or laws as a negative impression. What’s more, those of the Lord’s & all the more when we humanly can’t comprehend the reason(s) why these are put in place by God.
Personally, I think it would be very helpful that we learn to view everything that happens with the backdrop of the Cross behind it. That’s because it is the strongest & most impressionable act of God’s love for us… along with His many other acts of love to us. Difficult as it may be, it doesn’t make it any less true.
It is no mistake when Moses told the people of Israel that these commands are your life. That means that it constitutes your life & influences it in every way. Sounds ‘deep’ to simply comprehend, but these are really God’s instructions to follow, if we truly want to live & experience our lives to its fullest measure, according to God’s best wishes & plans for us.
Adhering to God’s advice can’t be wrong, coz He made everything – the world & all that’s in it, along with even every spiritual being that’s good AND bad (making Him even King of all the heavenly realms)… as well as our very minds that we sometimes use to conjure all sorts of assumptions & thoughts about Him & things happening around.
He is the Creator, whether we choose to acknowledge it or not. And to put it very simply & perhaps bluntly, even if we choose not to believe, it doesn’t justify us as anymore knowledgeable or make us any better at making decisions & putting together complete sense about everything that goes on… coz we didn’t make this world in the first place. Like it or not, we are also part of the very beings & things that were made. There’s just no way around it, coz we can’t even control what goes on in our life, so how much so can we even try to determine it? There’s just no way of challenging this fact.
God’s instructions are set in place, so that we would be able to live & experience our lives to its fullest measure, according to our heavenly Father’s best laid out plans. Breaking His commands would not just hinder us from learning to love Him, but also limit the dimensions of fulfillment, which God has lovingly intended for us to experience in our life.
For example, God intended to give us a spouse to allow us to experience the beauty & wonderful expression of what love is. Yet, God says, “Do not commit adultery.” This command was put in place, so that abiding by it would protect AND free us to experience love at its human best. Failing to obey would result in scars which prevent us from this fullness of experience, wouldn’t you agree?
With this in mind, sometimes we still face difficulty obeying God. Obedience is not an easy act, so how do we learn to improve in this area? By following this formula below –
Knowing God --> Loving God --> Believing God --> Obeying God
Of course, the first step of becoming a Christian requires us to believe in Jesus Christ & invite Him into our life. But it doesn’t just stop there…
We have to begin to know God by experiencing Him, so that through this, we may learn how to love Him. It is only when we learn how to love God, can we begin to believe & trust Him wholeheartedly. And that would lead to obeying Him.
