YA Valentine’s Day 2006
My church’s Young Adults (YA) celebrated the coming Valentine’s Day with an interesting program yesterday.
Small candles were lighted in front of the room, which so fascinated me that I asked Rebecca to take a photo of me, posing as a monk sitting crossed legged & chanting next to this whole array of lighted candles! It was so amusing! And one of the guys laughed at me… I think it was Joel… or Jacob… one of them…
To start the game, all the guys were told to stand at one side of the room, while the girls stand at the opposite. Each guy was told to pick a piece of paper from a small box, read the name inside, pick up a red or pink rose from the box in front, walk up to the girl & give it to her!
Now, the most interesting part of the game (which I felt odd & uncomfortable) was that we are not supposed to be paired up with our own girlfriend or boyfriend. I was paired up with Joyce Goh, whereas Rebecca was paired up with Ryan Lin.
Next, we were asked to sit in a single row, facing each other & given a few minutes to get to know each other. It seemed like a typical speed dating session… just that each individual was only allowed to interact with that one assigned person of the opposite gender.
After that, a piece of paper was given out, for each of us to individually fill in our answers, as questions were read out by Shaun, the game master. It was pathetic, well, at least for me, coz of all the 20 questions that were asked, I had only asked ONE of them during that short duration of free & easy chat. But some of the questions were those choose the correct answer out of two options, which means that we had a 50-50 chance of getting it correct. Phew… in the end, I scored 11 out of 20, whereas Joyce scored 12. The highest score was 17. Amazing! And the top 5 ‘couples’ with the highest score carried onto the next round, which didn’t include me & Joyce, but included Rebecca & Ryan.
Next, we played this guessing game, where similar items were placed on a table at each side of the room & each person is supposed to walk there & bring back one item of choice & see if there is telepathy between each ‘couple’. In this game, Rebecca & Ryan were out, coz they only got it right 1 out of 3 times. But it was comical & I took a few photos of them. It was fun to see if two people selected by random could have telepathy… but personally, I would think that if a real couple were put to this test of telepathy… & really see if they really had telepathy… =)
Finally, the last part of the program ended with Ryan & his real girlfriend Amy, teaching us how to dance the Waltz. I was shy, so I just watched & didn’t practice the dance with Joyce. Rebecca didn’t practice either, coz her ‘partner’ Ryan was teaching us the dance steps. Hee! Coz I don’t feel comfortable about another guy holding my girlfriend so close to him. Plus, Rebecca & I had an appointment at Suntec, so decided to make a move…
One part which I remembered was Andrew repeating after Ryan, “Front, Side, Close… Back, Side, Close…” It was so funny & everyone laughed at Andrew coz it sounded like he was saying, “Back-side close...” Hahahaha… =)
