Antivirus Software Isn’t Enough

Yes, what the title of this Blog entry says is true.

Since I bought the latest 2006 version of Norton Antivirus (NAV) in late December, I decided to give it a try & not regularly scanning my PC with my Spyware Doctor program that I downloaded from the Internet since last year. After all, this latest version of NAV does state that it removes spyware as well as malicious virus threats.

And the eventual result for the NAV 2006 - FAIL. Just merely a few weeks of not scanning my PC with my Spyware Doctor program & my PC started to act weird, with my PC slowing down a little bit & yesterday this huge pop-up screen appeared on my PC screen! I decided to run my Spyware Doctor program & found out that my PC had already been clogged up with 34 spyware viruses! Of which, I think 4 were rated high-risk threats! Thankfully, my Spyware Doctor managed to clean up & remove these 34 spyware threats… *Phew!*

So if we ever think that the usual antivirus software is good & safe enough… think again. No, it isn’t. Just merely downloading Microsoft Windows patches from the ‘Automatic Updates’ & downloading antivirus virus definitions isn’t safe enough. I was shocked to realize that my PC has been bugged & monitored by those 4 malicious spyware threats! That means some fella has been able to track my Internet usage for the past few weeks! Grrrr… Not that I had surfed any ‘wrong’ websites, but it’s still a privacy issue. In short – download & regularly scan your PC for spyware threats.
