An Unintentional Birthday Surprise!

This evening, Rebecca & I met for dinner at the Block 85 market near her home. We had a good laugh over dinner, especially when she reminded me about this hilarious nonsensical joke that I said to her, when we were in our first year of our relationship together. I totally cannot remember that I could have even said something so nonsensical, but I guess a woman’s memory is always better than a man’s… for reasons that I can’t explain…

Rebecca told me that I once asked her, “Would you ever consider going for an operation to become an animal, for example a cow or pig… then you can become one of the poultry. And if you want to be a cow, what color cow do you want to be? Only got blue & purple…”

That utterly nonsensical! How & why in the world would I have said such a thing? Was I drunk on air or something at that time? Hahahaha… but we had a good laugh… You see, sometimes a woman’s good memory can be a good thing at times… =)

I gave Rebecca this plastic bag, which was rather heavy, before she walked towards her house door. She called me later, while I was walking to the bus stop, saying that she’s very surprised to see what was in the bag! It was my surprise to her, coz she’s been working so hard all these weeks & I felt that there are only limited ways that I could help her, by for example, sending her home earlier, not talking too late on the phone, buying her nutritious foods & drinks, so that she can consume, when busy at work, etc. It’s somewhat like an office survival pack for her… & she was so surprised that she called to thank me!

Office Survival Pack – Contents

1) One pack of Ovaltine biscuits
2) One Snickers chocolate nut bar
3) One small 6-pack apple fruit drink
4) Three small bottles of cooling water
5) One 6-pack Brands chicken essence with American Ginseng

I felt happy that she liked what I bought for her. I’m not sure how long these items would last, but I guess maybe about a month or so… since these are more for building up body resistance & for emergencies such as busy work days, rather than taken as daily meals.

Rebecca also told me that her Mum chuckled that she’s so enthusiastic in calling to thank me, but she isn’t as enthusiastic when she buys such nutritious stuff for her. Jealousy? Hee! Not that I intended it to be so…

And the best part – today happens to be Rebecca’s birthday, based on the Chinese calendar! Well, that’s what Rebecca said her Mum told her… so I wished Rebecca happy birthday again over the phone… Hahahaha… =)

Oh yes, another good part – Rebecca shared that she had actually wanted to go down to the NTUC supermarket near her house to buy these exact items this evening! But since we were meeting for dinner, she decided to buy another day. But it turned out that I had unintentionally anticipated her needs! Wow! Thank God! Yeh! =)

Seriously, I didn’t have any intention to prove anything to her parents, though it doesn’t harm that they see that I’m concerned for their daughter. But my main concern is that my girlfriend is well, strong & healthy… & I don’t mind spending some money on helping her cope with her work & stress. As long as she’s happy & well, I’ll be happy too… =)
